Pre-Loading Inspection
(For Owners & Charterers)
Pre-Loading Inspection
A pre-loading inspection is a preventive step that helps owners and charterers avoid cargo rejection, delays, and claims. By checking the vessel before loading starts, potential issues can be identified and resolved early—before they turn into costly disputes.
During the inspection, cargo holds or tanks are examined to confirm that they meet the cleanliness and suitability requirements of the charter party and cargo contract.
For dry bulk cargoes, the inspection includes checks on:
Residues and rust scale
Moisture and odors
Hatch cover tightness
Bilge condition
For liquid bulk cargoes, such as vegetable oils and molasses, the inspection focuses on:
Tank cleanliness
Previous cargo history
Tank coatings
Cargo lines and pumping systems
Heating arrangements
For owners, a pre-loading inspection provides confidence that the vessel is fit to receive the intended cargo. For charterers, it reduces the risk of cargo rejection by terminals or receivers due to non-compliance with contractual or regulatory requirements.
By carrying out independent pre-loading inspections, Mercurius Survey helps owners and charterers prevent off-hire, operational delays, and commercial risk—ensuring that loading operations proceed smoothly and in full compliance with agreed standards.
